Weekly Words of Wellness
For those of you who are receive my newsletter and blogs, I wanted to make you aware of a new project I am working on. It is called Weekly Words of Wellness. My goal is to share something new every Wednesday or every other Wednesday in a newsletter format that will be delivered to your email. It might be a link to an article, a video, quote, or some random thoughts I have or come across related to health and wellness.
I understand that not everything will be of interest to everyone, so if you have a particular topic you would like me to discuss, or come across something interesting you think people might like learning about, please send it my way and I will include it in one of my weekly installments. Please know that you can also unsubscribe at any time at the bottom of the newsletter.
I want to do this new project for several reasons, the main one being that we never know what word, thought, quote, idea, article, or video might hit us the right way on the right day at the right time that has a big impact, just like it has for me many times. One of the most compelling was back in 2010. I was watching Wayne Dyer on PBS discussing his new program called The Shift.
I walked away from the television for a moment to go to the bathroom and just as I leaving the room, I heard him say the following: “If you change the way you look at things the things you look at change.”
I stopped in my tracks. It hit me like a ton of bricks. I sat back down. The bathroom could wait a little longer. I had to listen because at that time, I was stuck in a rut with little clarity about the direction my life was going. I was dealing with pain and dystonia that began in 2001 that I had learned to manage pretty well, but I didn’t know how to get my life back on track that was derailed for many years. Having been homebound and isolated for so long from being so sick, I didn’t know where I fit in the world anymore. I felt like a square peg in a round hole full of fear and anxiety. It was scary and I was caught in limbo. I kept repeating the same defeating thoughts and asking unanswerable questions over and over in my head.
After hearing this one sentence by Dr. Dyer, I began to look at what I was going through differently. I began asking myself different questions and in a very short period, a weight was lifted and I took all of the self-induced pressure off myself. It was very liberating to see that I had options other than what I was seeing, which were blocks.
Not long after putting this quote to memory and daily practice, I had an opportunity to enroll in a life coaching program which I completed 2 years later and have been actively coaching people all over the world ever since. Shortly thereafter, I began writing my first book, Diagnosis Dystonia: Navigating the Journey, soon to be followed by my second book, Beyond Pain and Suffering: Adapting to Adversity and Life Challenges.
I say this quote often about different things whenever I feel at a crossroads or just off kilter with something. It always changes my perspective which helps me see options versus obstacles.
So, for this first Weekly Words of Wellness. I invite you to take this quote and see if you can look at something in your life differently than you have been. It could be related to your health, a relationship, your job, or something else entirely. It might be something you are struggling to figure out or come to terms with or understand or overcome. Apply this quote daily and see if it offers you a different perspective to help you work through it.
